Intentional training

If you, like many, feel frustrated with your training progress, this article is for you. Training without a clear purpose can be frustrating, leaving us feeling stuck. Setting appropriate goals that will help you to implement intentional training, aka goal-oriented training.

Learning the process and understanding how YOUR body reacts to different adaptations is important.

The Power of goals:

Let’s explore a powerful tool for transformation: setting intentional training goals. Goals keep you motivated and disciplined. But they must be right for you.

The right goals will give you a roadmap to your success and opportunities to adjust your training in order to be better suited to your end goal.

Use intentional training to help you achieve your goals.

Setting goals for yourself that describe your short-term, mid-term and long-term aspirations. Your goals need to be Specific, Measurable, Acceptable (you need to be able to achieve them), Realistic, and Time-bound. This goal-setting framework helps to ensure that you are able to review your progress in training, with measured data instead of emotion-based decision-making systems.

If you set too extreme a goal. The process of attaining your goal will be so draining that you will not be able to appreciate just how amazing your progress has been.

The SMART framework will help you to more accurately assess your progress and stay consistent, or change the plan where necessary.

Learning how to adjust your plan according to your personalised goals

It is important to recognise that you have different DNA, training history and current starting point.

As such, you need to be able to adjust your training plan to your needs and abilities.

This is your journey, take control of it with intentional training.

Testing Stations: checkpoints along the way to assess your progress to see whether or not you are on the right path. This helps you to determine if you need to alter your plan in order to better suit your needs.

Start by looking at your goals and current abilities. Assess your current ability by testing in a format that you will test at the end of your timeline to establish your starting point.

Once you have this measured starting point, you will need to come up with a plan in order to reach your goal. This plan should include small adjustments and scaling of training to change the intensity/style of training you are implementing so as to ensure that you are on track to reach your long-term goal. When setting up long-term goals, you should set up checkpoints with their own smaller goals that you can set up at the previous checkpoint according to how you did in the last measurement.

Adjust your training to prioritise the current weaknesses that are holding you back from attaining your goals.

The destination is the start of a new journey

When you set smaller goals that lead to bigger ones and train according to the short-term goals. You guarantee yourself small successes that will guide you along the right path and lead you to success.

But it is important  to jump into the next journey and keep growing from success to success.

These small victories will keep you motivated and that in turn will keep you disciplined when it gets tough, and the goal is no longer easily attained or comfortable.

Tracking is essential to assessing your progress. The Duality Fitness App has a tracking tool that will help you keep an accurate record of what you did in your training. This sort of tracking helps you to be sure that you are progressing and are on the path to success.

Keep setting new goals to keep pushing yourself to new successes and drive your motivation and discipline to become habits that will keep you healthy, happy and active.
